I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving and are having a great weekend! I know I am a little behind with this post. While this is my favorite time of year I definitely tend over-book myself, indulge in food and drinks more than I should, and not leave enough time for everything I need and want to do. I love it though, my first holiday party is tomorrow and I can’t wait!
I spent the long Thanksgiving weekend with RG and my in-laws in Detroit and had a wonderful time. We relaxed, consume exorbitant amounts of food and alcohol, did a little shopping and enjoyed some night life. I couldn’t have asked for a better holiday. I don’t know what I expected Detroit to be like, but it definitely exceeded all expectations. We explored the Birmingham area, which reminded me a lot of Georgetown in DC. It doesn’t have the brownstones and river walk but it has the boutiques, larger chain stores, coffee shops and unique restaurants. We also headed over to a similar area, Royal Oak, but here it started to snow and instead of exploring we ducked into a local watering hole, had a drink, and made our way promptly back to the car. Who knew how fast snow could send five adults running to a warm car!
One of my favorite nights was our trip out to Greektown. We began at the casino…where I found myself a seat at a Black Jack Table and didn’t move for a couple of hours. I was so concentrated I barely noticed when RG lost all of his chips and had to move. I played conservatively but was catching cards, I ended up doubling my money!! Unfortunately RG lost more than I won, but I was excited. I never win! After a couple of hours there RG’s parents headed home and the rest of us decided to have a night out on the town. We found an Irish pub where we danced and twirled, drank mediocre cocktails, convinced a drunk European man to show his boobs for beads, and closed the bar down. It reminded me of some of my favorite nights at UT…so much fun!
Until next time…
