Every Wednesday in Bangkok restaurants offer specials, bars have a ladies drink free night, and movies are half price. RG and I cannot pass up a deal so it has unexpectedly turned into our date night. Most times we end up at the movies, but a couple of weeks ago we decided to spend our night at a Thai football (soccer) match with some friends and colleagues.

We were there in support of the local team Singhtarau FC…if i had to guess, and I do not know much about this sport, I would put them at a level similar to the Atlanta Silverbacks. But this was a totally different experience than a Silverbacks game. The fans were there early, decked out in the orange and blue team colors, there was a band in the stands and fireworks ready to shoot off after a goal. It stayed a close game at 1-1 until the end, but with minutes left Singhtarua scored to end it at 2-1. We even bumped into the goal winning scorer on our way out of the game!

There are no food or alcohol sales within the stadium, but just feet away in the parking lot there are a handful of food stalls selling both. Your tickets allow reentry and while no cans, bottles or cups are allowed in, bags are! Bags of beer that is…another new Thai custom I am just learning about and I love it! I will say it’s a bit hard to set your drink down when it’s in a bag though…oh well, it means you must drink fast. It was a great experience, but next time I hope to catch a match on a weekend when I do not have to be teaching loud four year olds at 9am…the worst job ever to have a hangover at. (I wasn’t really hungover, but I can only imagine).
