Anniversary trip to Grand Cayman

Ryan and I recently celebrated our five year anniversary by heading to Grand Cayman for a long weekend. This was the first time we had been away from Jackson together, and while we missed him terribly it was a nice treat to be able to sleep in, order room service and relax. A special thanks to my parents who flew down and watched him for the long weekend.

We had been going back and forth for weeks on where we were going to for this trip and then we saw Delta was having a huge promotion to Grand Cayman so we booked our flights pretty impulsively. So we didn’t have any expectations as we headed down there, fortunately Grand Cayman did not disappoint. We spent the majority of our three days there lying on the beach with a book and cocktail in hand. These were some of the softest white sand beaches and crystal clear waters I’ve ever seen. I accomplished one of my bucket list items in the Dominican Republic

A few weeks ago I wrote about my bucket list…it is a list of things I want to do over the next few years.  And I actually accomplished one already!  I jumped down a waterfall!  Not even one, but SEVEN!!  Ok, so I have to admit I actually did something similar years ago, but I didn’t appreciate it as much as I should have so I made it a bucket list item to do it again! Dominican Republic: Coconut Palms Resort

It’s amazing how I’ve only been back in Atlanta for one week, but it feels like ages ago since I was in the Dominican Republic. We took this trip with my husband’s family and visited a not-so-touristy part of the Dominican.  We had a lot of family bonding time over happy hour drinks (2 for 1!) at the resort and even celebrated RG’s brother getting engaged! Dominican Republic Updates Coming . . .

The last week and a half has been amazing and exhausting all at the same time.  Unfortunately we never made it to Chicago…still trying to work with Delta to recoup some of our funds on that. Seems there were storms (?!) and they had to cancel our flight and couldn’t get us on another one.  Instead we were rerouted home a day early, we were probably a casualty of over-booking once our flight was canceled.

Oh well, regardless our night in Brooklyn was fabulous and our week-long stay in the Dominican was great. I have so much to update you all on but I am still recovering from all the travels. I promise to update you over the next week…I will have a few so stay tuned! NY, DR Resort, our excursion and the local restaurants we found are all on the agenda.  Until then here are a few pictures to keep you interested. Read More

Jet-setting for the week

We are about to embark on a week-long trip visiting a variety of places…starting in Brooklyn then heading to Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic) and finishing up in Chicago.  NY will be a quick overnight stay, the only direct flight to DR went through NY so we took advantage and booked an overnight layover.  I know, the decision to spend our time in Brooklyn as opposed to Manhattan may seem a bit strange to most.  About a year ago RG and I were going to move to Big Apple and we had decided to live in Brooklyn, sight unseen. I have traveled up there a lot, have family in Queens and Long Island, and absolutely love Manhattan, but when you look at cost to live versus space Brooklyn offers more.  At least that’s what I hear.  Although our plans have changed – after both finding new jobs in Atlanta – we want to see what we may have missed out on. Aruba: Sun. Sand. Flip Flops.

In a few hours I will be hitting the road for the drive down to Panama City Beach. I will try to give you some updates along the way, at least a few pictures of our beach adventures, but I make no promises. You may not hear from me until Monday.

Now on to my next vacation story…Over the past few years RG and I have taken a lot of “couple” trips. We are fortunate to have great friends who love to travel as much as we do, and have explored everywhere from Cozumel to Prague and Amsterdam with them. A few months ago we planned a trip to Aruba with two other couples, one that we are really close with and another that we had never met before.  That is always tricky, because you never know how personalities will collide.
