What I’ve been up to…

The weekend is here, we made it!  Coming off of a long weekend in Chattanooga and a short three day work week, I am heading off to Florida this weekend and can’t wait for some fun in the sun and relaxation.  It’s been a busy start to the year around here – January is always a bit crazy work-wise for both myself and Ryan, and on top of that we’ve had a lot going on from Jackson’s birthday to weekend trips and being slightly over committed when we are here.  I have not been doing as good of a job at setting those boundaries as I had hoped this year!  But since I have been a little quite on here I thought I would share a little update on what we’ve been up to around here. How to successfully work from home

The beginning of a new year is usually a period of renewed motivation, not only mentally and physically but also professionally.  I am fortunate to have a job which allows me the opportunity to work from home, and this works well for me – it’s overall made me a more productive employee and has helped me define a solid work/live balance.  But it can also be challenging, and I honestly do not believe it’s for everyone.

To successfully work remotely you have to stay self-motivated and driven, which can be a lot easier to do in an office setting where there is energy from others to feed off of. When I first started working from home busy days were easy, I put my head down and knocked out my to-do list, but the slower days when I needed to be proactive could at times be a struggle.  It took me a few months to find the best routine that works for me and now I actually work my best from home. Friday reads from around the web

And, queue the music, we made it to Friday!  I don’t know about you, but this week seemed to move so slowly for me, but we’re here.  And I couldn’t be more excited for this weekend…my parents are flying in tonight, and Ryan and I get to sneak away on Saturday and Sunday to go to Music Midtown.  Bruno Mars, Mumford & Sons, Naked & Famous and Future here I come!

I like to spend my Friday mornings catching up on articles I’ve bookmarked throughout the week. So in that spirit, I thought I would share a few pieces that have been on my recent lists. Hope you enjoy!   Read More

Friday reads from around the web

Happy Friday!  Here’s another round up of what I’ve been reading around the web.

Every weekday morning I try to set aside 30 minutes or so to drink some coffee and get caught up on news and the blogs I follow.  It’s pretty cathartic for me and gets my day started off right.  And since I always like to see what other people are reading I thought you all may be be interested in some of what I read.  I hope you enjoy these round ups! Traveling with a baby or toddler

Jackson and I are heading to Virginia this weekend, and it’ll be our first mother/son solo trip.  I’m really looking forward to it, but would by lying if I said I wasn’t  a little nervous about the flights without having Ryan there to help.  As I started planning and packing it got me thinking about the first time we flew with Jackson, when he was about four months old.  At the time I scoured blogs, Pinterest and various other sites for the best tips, tricks and hacks for flying with an infant.  Since then Jackson is a regular at the airport, with 12 flights under his belt. So I thought I would share what we’ve learned along the way and what has worked well for us. My first Experience as an Airbnb Host

Just over a week ago Ryan and I pulled the trigger and listed our carriage house on Airbnb. It wasn’t 100% ready for guests but close enough that I felt confident I could put the final touches on everything before our first guest arrived.  I honestly had no idea what to expect, and assumed it would be at least a couple of weeks before we saw real traction and had someone checking in…after all this was a new listing without any reviews. Well, I was completely wrong!  Read More

Father’s Day Weekend

Sometimes I still can’t believe Ryan and I have a son and that he’s already 17 months old…I know it’s so cliché to say this, but the older I get the faster time really does fly by. We had a great weekend celebrating Ryan and spending time together as a family and Ryan and I were even able to squeeze in a date night!  I hope you all also had good weekends. Read More
